What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Basically, laser hair removal works by zapping away unwanted hair on the face and body with light energy.

It is considered one of the most popular procedures in the U.S. when it comes to the long-term reduction of body hair in areas such as the following:

  • Armpits
  • Legs
  • Arms
  • Face
  • Bikini Area

Compared to shaving or waxing, laser hair removal targets unwanted hair at the root, which effectively reduces the amount of hair in the treatment area by about 70%.

Advantages of Getting Laser Hair Removal

If you’re on the fence about trying out this procedure, here are some advantages that may convince you to go for it sooner than later.

A More Cost-Effective Option

While laser hair removal may seem more expensive up front, you can actually save money in the long run since you won’t have to spend money on depilatory creams, razors, and/or costly waxing sessions down the line to maintain a smooth, hairless appearance.

No More Ingrown Hairs

Unlike shaving, threading, or waxing, laser hair removal doesn’t result in painful ingrown hairs. In fact, it’s even believed to help address this painful side effect of traditional hair removal methods.

Non-Invasive

Aside from being safe and effective, laser hair removal is also non-invasive and is virtually pain-free. Most patients report feeling a sensation that’s similar to flicking a rubber band onto the skin, which is nowhere near as painful as waxing or threading can be.

Low Maintenance

It can be quite a chore to maintain smooth, hair-free skin such when you constantly need to shave or wax to keep unwanted hair at bay.

Thanks to laser hair removal, you’ll have one less thing to think about. Most patients usually get their desired results after 6 sessions, spaced 6-10 weeks apart.

And unless there are hormonal changes that affect the hair regrowth, you won’t need a lot of maintenance sessions afterwards.

What to Expect When Getting Laser Hair Removal

Here’s what you can expect during a laser hair removal here at The Hebe Medical Spa:

  1. The treatment area(s) will be cleansed to remove any oil, dirt, or lotion. It’s also advisable to shave the areas to be treated on the morning of your appointment.
  2. Our trained aestheticians will slightly stretch the area to make sure that there’s a clear pathway between the laser and the hair follicle root; and
  3. The laser beam will be applied to the treatment area to zap the hair follicle at the root and eventually prevent hair from growing in the area again.

Take note though that although laser hair removal is generally safe, the treated area(s) may look slightly red immediately after the treatment, but this should subside within a few days.

Thus, it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise and avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours after your treatment to let your skin recover properly.
