Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
When you struggle with how your facial skin appears because of sun damage, fine lines, or dark spots, Hebe Medical Spa can perform a skin analysis at our Fishkill, NY office to determine if you qualify for IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. A photofacial with IPL is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adult men and women with hyperpigmentation or wrinkle issues on their neck and face.
A photofacial may be a noninvasive process; however, it can be highly effective and create great outcomes. Our team uses intense pulses of light energy with Cutera LimeLight technology to heat the skin cells to ignite the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. Over time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and less dark spots. Call our MedSpa today to learn more.
Ideal Candidates
IPL reaches the deeper layers of your skin to improve several complexion concerns (particularly brown lesions and sun spots) with minimal or no downtime. Candidates for IPL at Hebe Medical Spa will have a combination of concerns with their complexion, such as rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, wrinkles, visible pores, redness, freckles, melasma, age spots, or broken capillaries. Our team will examine your complexion to determine if you will benefit from IPL at your initial consultation.
What To Expect?
Usually, no downtime is required after an IPL photofacial treatment. However, your complexion may be slightly red and (or) swollen after leaving our office; this will decrease naturally as the day continues. (If preferred, you also may use cosmetics to mask these side effects.) Hebe Medical Spa advises you to keep a cream on the skin’s surface to minimize any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to help decrease swelling.
Over the course of 2 – 5 days, the sun damage and other irregularities under the skin will rise to the surface skin layers and then start to flake away. It is necessary to protect your skin with sunscreen as often as possible after an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin. While you will have some visible improvements after your first treatment, your complexion will attain ideal results with multiple IPL treatments. Most patients get 3 – 6 sessions performed monthly at Hebe Medical Spa.
Procedure Technique
IPL is performed at our Fishkill, NY medspa in around 20 – 30 minutes in our minor procedures room if no other treatments are performed. To prepare for the IPL facial, your technician will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with special laser shields. The IPL is performed using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting laser energy pulses. While many patients may have mild discomfort throughout the IPL, it’s usually bearable given the short treatment length.
Frequently Asked Question
How Much Does IPL Cost?
Every patient case is unique, which means the cost of IPL will be dependent on your individual condition. Hebe Medical Spa offers monthly specials and accepts many forms of payment. During your initial visit, we can help estimate your cost and determine the number of treatments needed for optimal results.
How Quick Are The Results From IPL?
Improvements can be seen after each treatment, but the best results can be seen a month after a full series of treatments is completed. It’s common for patients to respond differently to each treatment session. Patients will see a gradual improvement of redness, blotchiness, sunspots, and age spots over time.
Do I Need To Prep For IPL?
Patients about to undergo an IPL laser treatment are usually asked to avoid self-tanners and excessive sun for 2 – 4 weeks prior to the procedure. You should discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A/Renova several days before each treatment and may be asked to take aspirin or ibuprofen a week before the procedure to help prevent bruising. You should also protect the treated areas with sunscreen between sessions.
What Are The Possible Side Effects Of IPL?
Most patients experience mild side effects, like temporary swelling, redness, crusting, bruising, or superficial blisters. These subside within a day or two after the procedure. Patients will not be sun sensitive, but they should keep in mind that excessive sun exposure will affect the results of the procedure.
Patients should always wear sunscreen to protect their skin, and decrease the appearance of redness, brown spots, wrinkles and skin cancer.
Why So Many Sessions?
A full series of IPL photo rejuvenation sessions are required in order to provide gradual, natural-looking improvement with little to no risk of the patient’s safety. Multiple sessions also allow for longer-lasting results.
